Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Grace is fascinated by the wolves in the woods behind her house; one yellow-eyed wolf in particular. Every winter, she watches him but every summer, he disappears. Sam leads two lives. In winter, he stays in the frozen woods, with the protection of the pack. In summer, he has a few precious months to be human …until the cold makes him shift back again. When Grace and Sam finally meet, they realize they can’t bear to be apart. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human – or risk losing himself, and Grace, for ever.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater is the stoy of Grace, a girl who is fascinated with the wolves that live around her town. One in paricular holds her attention, one with yellow eyes. When she meets Sam, a boy with the same yellow eyes, she realises there is more to the wolves in the forrest than she previously realised.
Shiver, is a good, quick read. The storyline was relatively easy to follow, although I found the supporting characters quite weakly drawn. We saw little of Olivia (Grace’s friend) one minute, and then the next she is quite an influential member of the story and making decisions which perhaps would not seem so drastic if we had more of an introduction to the character.
Another thing that bothered me with the story was the point of view changing with each character. I found at times I had to back track and work out who was telling the story – Sam or Grace.
That said, the story was simple, easy to read. The central characters, Grace and , I felt were quite well drawn and characters that I did care about.
Shiver is the first in a series of three books, and I will be reading the others to see how the storyline develops.

This book was amazing I loved every minute of it. Maggie Stiefvater is a great writer. Maggie puts a different twist on wolves and really draws you in. Shiver is very similar in my point of view to twilight but is that really a bad thing?
