A Year Between Breaking Dawn Films!

From the LA Times:

After releasing the first three movies in “The Twilight Saga” in a span of just 19 months, Summit will take its time with the franchise’s final two films. Plenty of time.

The studio announced this morning that the second installment of “Breaking Dawn” will follow the first one by a full year, coming out on Nov. 16, 2012. This despite the fact that Bill Condon is shooting the movies back-to-back beginning this fall, which would mean the second film would certainly be ready by the summer of 2012.

Breaking We were already a little perplexed that the first “Breaking Dawn” was being held for November 2011, putting nearly a 1-1/2 years between installments. With this announcement it’s clear what Summit is thinking: Stick with the autumn and avoid the summer.

It may not be the worst move from a seasonal standpoint. Despite bringing out “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” in an expectation-laden summer, Summit has been able to gin up only marginally more business for the David Slade film than it did for the November release of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” (Domestic grosses at a comparable point in the release cycle sit at $288 million, compared to $277 million for “New Moon.)

But in taking its time between the movies, Summit is increasing the risk that that fans will get distracted or lose some enthusiasm.

Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter franchise was able to wait longer stretches between a few of its installments — for much of the film series, a stream of new books kept the property front-of-mind. “Twilight” doesn’t have that. It has to hope interest carries over between films all on its own, and that filmgoers don’t outgrow it or move on to a new phenomenon in between.

The yearlong wait between the two “Breaking Dawn” films is even more striking because the two movies come from source material that was initially conceived as a whole. No matter where Condon and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg choose to split the book (spoiler alert: Bella’s traumatic childbirth is a logical option), for filmgoers it will mean waiting a full year for what’s essentially the same story to pick up again.

With its bang-bang release of the first three “Twilight” films, Summit was initially perhaps a little too worried fans would age up or lose interest over time. With the more languid pacing for the final two, it’s possible they may not be concerned enough.

‘Breaking Dawn’ to be Directed by Bill Condon!

The Twilight Examiner has reported that Bill Condon will be the director for Breaking Dawn:

After countless months of speculation regarding who would helm The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Summit Entertainment has just announced that Bill Condon (Oscar-winning director of Dreamgirls, Kinsey, and Gods And Monsters) will indeed be the director.

Erik Feig, President of Production and Acquisitions for Summit Entertainment, stated the following about the selection of Condon: “Bringing Stephenie Meyer’s BREAKING DAWN to the screen requires a graceful and intelligent hand and we believe Bill Condon is exactly the right steward, having shown equal and abundant talents of immense creativity and subtle sensitivity.”

Stephenie Meyer, too, positively weighed in on the choice: “I’m so thrilled that Bill wants to work with us. I think he’s going to be a great fit, and I’m excited to see what he does with the material.”

Finally, Bill Condon himself spoke up about being picked to helm the fourth film in the Twilight series. “I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book - and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience,” he said.

The present status of the film is that Melissa Rosenberg is currently penning the screenplay, and Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt, and Stephenie Meyer are set as producers for the picture. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner are all set to reprise their center-stage roles for the film.

Christian Serratos: ‘Breaking Dawn’ Will Begin Filming In October

Posted by Rachel | Breaking Dawn, Christian Serratos | Thursday 29 April 2010 10:03 am

According to an article in the Herald Sun, Christian let slip that Breaking Dawn will begin filming in October. Here’s the article:

TWILIGHT fans, get ready to sink your teeth into this — Breaking Dawn, the last chapter in the movie saga, will start filming in October.

Christian Serratos, who plays Angela in the hit franchise, let that slip while in Melbourne yesterday.

Until now there has been no confirmation if the last instalment of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book series would be filmed.

It is thought the 754-page novel might be split into two feature films along the same lines as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, with hopes New Moon director Chris Weitz will return to the helm.

While Serratos’s Eclipse co-stars Gil Birmingham, Daniel Cudmore and Booboo Stewart remained coy about the film’s start date, the actor and sometime model accidentally let the cat out of the bag.

“No word is out yet,” Stewart said, to which Serratos quickly replied “No, October.”

Birmingham, who plays Taylor Lautner’s father Jacob Black, quickly tried to cover up the blunder.

“We could tell you, but we’d have to kill you - like we will Christian,” he said.

The four Eclipse stars, who flew out today, have been in Australia for the Twilight convention held at Melbourne University on Sunday.

Serratos said she had got used to the Twilight mania.

“People say it is like Beatle-mania,” Serratos said.

“But after a while it becomes second nature, I mean it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the character you’re playing.”

Peter Facinelli - “Keep The Sex Scenes In ‘Breaking Dawn’ PG-13″

Hollywood Life have posted:

We’ve been waiting for soooo long to see Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart FINALLY make sweet, sweet love in the fourth and final Twilight film, Breaking Dawn, that it didn’t even occur to us that some people (re: parents) might not be so happy at the seductive content.

However, Peter Facinelli—who plays hot vampire patriarch Carlisle Cullen—has made us see the error of our ways.

“I have a 12-year-old daughter [Luca Bella, whose mom is Jennie Garth]. She’s a fan and I’d want her not to feel left out or awkward,” Peter, 37, explained to HollywoodLife.com exclusively Jan. 16 at Lionsgate’s pre-Golden Globes party.

“Hopefully it’s a PG-13 type of situation,” he added. “I’m sure the producers and directors know what they want—and especially what they are doing—but I’m sure they don’t want to alienate fans.”

We like how Peter sees both sides here: he doesn’t want to destroy his daughter’s innocence, yet he wants the flick to remain pure for die-hard fans. His primary loyalty is to his family though, after all—family always comes first to this #1 Dad.
